This acne checklist provides steps that may help reduce the formation and longevity of acne.
Acne is a problem that results from hormonal changes in the body. No one solution works for everyone. This checklist of home remedies for acne offers a list of things to try which may help prevent acne and heal lesions faster.
  • Wash skin twice a day and after exercising.
  • Eat a healthy diet. Reduce excess sugar and fats.
Although diet is not the cause of acne, it does help with the healing process of damaged skin. Good nutrition and adequate vitamins in your diet is the key to overall health of the skin and body.
  • Keep skin clean
Use a mild cleanser. Do not scrub your skin. Excess scrubbing can cause the oil glands to over produce. Exfoliating cleansers should be used less often if acne is present.
  • Use of an astringent is optional
Do not over-dry the skin with a heavy application of alcohol-based products. However, a "freshener" will not dry the skin and is fine to use.
  • Use a face cream that will not clog pores.
  • Acne medicine should be applied regularly
Most acne medicines contain either benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, or resorcinol. Each topical medication works similarly, but benzoyl is likely the stronger of the three and should be used less often. It is not necessary to spend more money for any particular brand.
  • Control the pain with aspirin and a hot washcloth.
Acne is painful when the sores become swollen. It is better to control the pain than squeeze the sore or pop them.
Always seek the help and advice of a dermatologist to find a treatment that works best for your skin type and condition.
